Make Your Own Seasoning Blends - Poultry Seasoning

Installment #5 in the Make Your Own Seasoning Blends is Poultry Seasoning.
Closeup image of mortar & pestle with a variety of herbs inside.
There are 9 ingredients in my version of poultry seasoning, but you should have most of them already on hand.  Here they are:

2 Tablespoons Thyme
2 Tablespoons Rosemary
1 Tablespoon Marjoram
1 Tablespoon Sage
1 Tablespoon Onion Powder
1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder
1 Tablespoon Pepper
1 Tablespoon Paprika
1 Tablespoon Parsley

Once you have your spices gathered, you may want to grind them with a mortar & pestle, spice grinder or blender since some of the herbs are a little coarse compared to the powders.  It just makes for a more even distribution.

Spicy Smoked Sausage Skillet Served Over Rice

Smoked sausage rounds, sliced onions and red bell peppers cooking in a skillet.
Talk about a frugal meal!  It's so easy to make and you can feed 3-4 people for about $3.00.  (Even less if you grow onions and/or bell peppers in your garden.)

This meal will even give you a chance to use that Creole Seasoning you made from the "Make Your Own Seasoning Blends" series.

If you have a Save-A-Lot grocery store in your area, smoked sausage is on sale now at 10 for $10.  Stock up!

Make Your Own Seasoning Blends - Creole Seasoning

#4 in the Make Your Own Seasoning Blends series is the Cajun flavor of Creole seasoning.

Closeup of a wooden spoon filled with spice.  In the background is an open mason jar and some shiny gold and green Mardi Gras beads.

As I was gathering ingredients to make tonight's supper I was dismayed (does anyone really say "dismayed" in real life?) to find out I was totally out of creole seasoning.  No worries - I just whipped out my measuring spoons and the following spices:

5 Tablespoons Paprika
2 Tablespoons Onion Powder
2 Tablespoons Garlic Powder
2 Tablespoons Oregano
2 Tablespoons Basil
1 Tablespoon Thyme
1 Tablespoon Black Pepper
1/2 Tablespoon Cayenne
2 Tablespoons Salt

When making the video for this spice blend, I noticed I didn't have much paprika on hand, so cut the recipe in half. This is real life folks! lol

Making Soft Drinks At Home

A generic 2 liter bottle of cola.

It's been a little while since I posted a video, so thought I'd pass along this tip on how you can make your own soda or pop or whatever you call it where you live.  It's not going to be a huge money saver unless you drink a lot of pop at your household.  We happen to drink quite a bit of the stuff and I figure I save about $25-$30/month by making my own.  There are lots of flavors to choose from, but my favs are the cola & Country Time lemonade while my son likes the faux Mt. Dew and hubby likes the root beer. Now before you start preaching how bad soda pop is for a body, the syrup I purchase is sweetened partly with aspartame & has no high-fructose corn syrup, so let's not start judging.  All that and you'll be saving the landfills from all those plastic bottles.  Surely that's something to feel good about. :-D
